URL forwarding allows you to redirect traffic from a domain under your control to another domain. This feature provides a simple and effective way to guide visitors to a different website. For example, moreweb.co.nz redirects to moreweb.nz.
The control panel supports three types of forwarding:
Framed-forwarding:
This method displays the destination website within an IFRAME in the browser window. For example, if you frame-forward my-original-domain.nz to my-target-website.nz, visitors would see my-original-domain.nz in the browser's URL bar while viewing the content of my-target-website.nz within an IFRAME.
Permanent 301 redirect:
This redirect forwards traffic from my-old-domain.nz to my-new-domain.nz without using frames. The browser's URL bar will display the new destination. A 301 redirect also informs search engines that my-old-domain.nz has moved permanently to my-new-domain.nz, prompting them to update their indexes.
Temporary 302 redirect:
Similar to a 301 redirect, this redirects traffic from my-main-domain.nz to my-temporary-domain.nz. However, a 302 redirect signals to search engines that the move is temporary, advising them not to update their indexes immediately.
When redirecting multiple domains for brand protection purposes (e.g., moreweb.co.nz, emails.co.nz, etc., to moreweb.nz), a 301 permanent redirect is usually recommended. It signals to Google that the destination website is the authoritative source.
